IDO take care,I live in Yogyakarta close to where they are talking of mining these sands. The beach all along there is very fragile and subject to erosion .There's a lot of disquiet amongst locals about it's impact and there are a lot environmental activists and NGO's getting involved. It would be a different story if they were taking sand from the volcano, there's plenty of that, all the rivers are full of volcanic sand at the moment and need to drained/dredged. There is about 2 million tons of sand in the rivers as a result of Merapi's explosions last year and to give you an example every day for the last 4 months 30 trucks have left my village with sand and every time it rains more sand comes down the river ,all the rivers .The major highway to Magelang is frequently cut my sand/mud flows that are up to 4 metres deep.
