I recall a lawyers' strategy of "sewing the seeds of doubt" in the opposing lawyer's mind by pointing out all the weaknesses in the opposition's case.
It usually happened during a neutral friendly exchange between lawyers from both sides...maybe when walking back from court.
The strategy was often used at a point when proceeding without doubt would have resulted in the recipient of the advice winning the case. It also seemed to be a strategy used almost exclusively by lawyers from the largest most competitve law firms.
