Must they have a role ? Do they have a role ?
Not everything or every existence needs to have "a role". It is like asking "what is the role of the Earth" ? You or some other people can try to put a role for it, and it will shape the way you look at it and its behaviour but others may not share the view of the role you have defined for it and that is where the problem starts: the arguments as to who is right or wrong, and in some extreme cases, it ended up in physical fights.
Something in life you need to be methodological, with some others one does not have to be.
I am not here to convince you or others of what I said in my earlier post. Spirituality is a very personal thing, something only that person can understand or feel.
