That is probably only the tip of the iceberg. These notices had to be provided as they exceeded the 5% disclosure threshold. It is only by chance that we became aware of them because their release has happened on the same day. There could be many other companies where BOA were just under that level or have not yet disclosed their interests. Another question is how many other financial institutions, both foreign and local, were involved and what proportion of each company's issued shares did the shorting represent?

It looks like brokers are lending out our shares so that the share prices can be manipulated by overseas interests.

The high AUD is an illusion because it is now being driven more by speculative capital flows rather than natural supply/demand and net trade balance. Something similar was happening in Brazil so they imposed some capital controls (I am not sure how effective this has been for them).
