Loki, conspiracies are for the lazy... gold stocks aren't being depressed to keep gold low. The USD gold price has risen $250 in just a few weeks!

In hindsight being short goldies since the beginning of the year has been smart... end-of-2010 financial results didn't blow away estimates for most major producers... input costs are rising and in many cases production is declining at established mines. Not to mention the growing risk of nationalisation around the world...

Maybe the Chief Executive of Newcrest selling 125,000 shares got all caught up emotionally with the Royal Wedding and wanted to buy his wife something nice... or maybe he sees things we don't.
