Pure silver plays in this market are rare. But the silver developers, buoyed by the bumper prices, are racing to get into production. Alcyone has returned its Twin Hills silver mine near Texas, south-eastern Queensland, to production and by the end of the year, Cobar Consolidated Resources plans to have its Wonawinta project south of Cobar in NSW in production.

Texas is to be a 1.5-2 million ounce-a-year silver producer, with forecast cash operating costs of $13 an ounce. Wonawinta is planned as a 2.5 million ounce-a-year producer at a cash operating cost of $10.20 an ounce (before any lead credits)."
