And grass clippings (or leaves this time of year) are excellent if you first put them in one of those thick dark green (almost black) big garbage bags...seal with a good tight knot and leave for about 3 wks until decomposed. Will become very hot and gaseous, so do not inhale the fumes as you re-open the bag in 3 wks time to check it. Sometimes you will have a mould/mildew throughout, in which case the process is not finished...reseal and leave to check once a week. I used to leave mine in the sun and it worked even faster.
For a really upsized batch, get all the grass and fine clippings (including leaves) you can find to put everything under a large Black pvc style plastic sheet, as used in building/cementing etc (brain is tired tonight, can;t think of its name).
