politics threads are truly political. They get steered off topic so easy.

You were right in your original post Eags.

Abbott would have sold his soul for the top job as would/did Gillard

Abbott agreed to double the refugee intake therefore cannot complain about the additional refugess from Malaysia with clear conscience. He can however complain that he doesn't believe it will stop the boat people which some posters here to also believe.
I don't happen to be one of them.

I may in fact be one of the very few conservative voters that give this solution any merit at all.

I say run with it and if it stops them kudos to Gillard and Labor. If it doesn't stop them then live and die (politically) by your actions and out they go.

I wonder if secrectly some Libs are actually scared that it may work.

Personally I think it will and Gillard may have in fact pulled a rabbit out of the hat which will make the next election a contest.

Lets be honest people. If Tony had come up with the idea how many of you would have been clapping it as a great solution?

Sometimes I think we should just focus on the policy and not the party.

I think this one is worth a try.

Lets face it...we as a country whether we like it or not are committed to population expansion. Costello's one for Mum, one for Dad and one for your country was cringe worthy and one of the most stupid things I have herad from a Liberal. Whilst I strongly believe in a country with an ethical and strong social concience I don't believe we should be breeding tomorrows welfare recipients deliberately by bribing women to have children. Some could argue that our refugee commitments may in fact be doing just that however I would like to hope that a completed screening process means that we also will be taking in potentially great Australians and not just another countries trash as I have heard it put.
I can't help but be grateful for just the cuisine component that has been allowed to develop and prosper with the multicultural enviroment created.
We have gone from just Greek and Italian with the odd chines restaurant to Indian,Vietnamese,Japanese,African, Malaysian and Asian fusion to name but a few that I frequent regularly.
Lots of work to do to effectively manage integration however I honestly believe the benefit of multiculturalism can far outweigh the problems as long as we don't permit/encourage segregation.
