Sorry for late reply. I agree 100% with you that if Col reckons you can get 200k homes then he is in fairy land. I just agreed with his point that people should choose a more humble home first. It's ironic the 6pr mentioned Maddington. We bought in Mad in end of 2003 for 162k. We originally owned inner city, Highgate and Maylands. We decided it was time for a family and my wife would have the option to go back to work,IF and WHEN, it suited HER. Hence we sold up and moved to a home that would give us a modest 100k mortgage to allow for one wage. No offense, but Mad is a far cry from Highgate/Maylands. We didn't think it was 'beneath us' to move there. It was, and still is, a very under rated up and coming suburb. Alot of young couples doing like us. They then 'bomb out' the 70's style and modernise it. Plus, these homes are more solid than the crap built today LOL
Then, we did well with other ventures. Plus, my wife doesn't drive. We also seriously considered schooling. To cut a long story short, we moved to Ellenbrook into a 550k home. Sold Mad in 'boom' time for a modest 310k in Oct 2007. Needless to say, both dwellings are now easily worth at least 10% down, so the 280k for Mad is about spot on.
If someone is adamant that they are not 'compromising' their social standing with regards to house style/size and location then I have no sympathy. That's Colin's point. He did not say it was easy peasy to own a home, just make a more 'humble' choice.
