This thread is so full of misinformation it's quite silly. There is no 'record cold snap'. It snowed in May, that's all. It also snows in December reasonably often. It's called weather.

A couple of very small areas (not Thredbo) got extra cold a couple of days ago.
I suspect it's because you've all been acclimatising to warmer weather each year, when a normal winter arrives it seems like an ice age to you!
(When there is an early dump it sometimes results in a late snow season.)
