Very important point hanrahan re fan.
Also if using laptop make sure it is slightly raised and not sitting on cloth. Clean the bench regulary. If you are keen use a low suction vacum on the outside of the fan housing but only on a very low setting do not want to wreck the fan bearing etc.
I run ubuntu and PC (dual boot) due to work and the fact that mac's do not have the software, I use.
