pelican, relax. I didn't say that the child didn't go to the doctor. It did, to confirm the diagnosis, and because it is a notifiable disease. Not that that did any good, because by that time the contagious period had passed. Cases in older people don't exhibit the whoop, so it only appears to be a bad cough which won't go away, with no, or only very mild, fever. What triggered the suspicion was that a classmate had been diagnosed with it. That made the second case of confirmed whooping cough that we know of in fully vaccinated kids in the last couple of years.
I assure you, I am very careful with my childrens' health.
mollymeade, good luck with the chicken pox. My kids couldn't catch it if they tried! Pelican, relax again, we didn't try. But when they were exposed, one managed twelve spots, and the other nothing at all.
