    Of course, work done 'cash in hand' & goods sold over the back fence never attract the GST.

    Your ignorance knows no bounds.

    GST is a tax on spending - not on income. That's why it reduces the impact of the cash economy - cash in hand gets taxed when it's spent. GST paid by receivers of cash cannot be claimed back. People who charge GST and do not pay it to the government leave a paper trail through a Tax Invoice which is required before you can get the GST paid to you. etc etc - but you have a closed mind.

    ps - the GST generates $50b per annum and grows at 6% pa and goes directly to the states. Without it the country ceases to operate. Being an ex schoolteacher doesn't give you a license to talk rubbish, but it might qualify you to be a member of a Labor government.
