Australia has the highest household debt to disposable income ratio in the world, even higher than the USA. We also have one of the highest household debt to GDP ratios in the world. So while public debt may not be a problem here in Australia, it's the private debt burden that will be our downfall (especially if the property bubble continues to deflate).
