Eagle, I already answered your question, but perhaps you have me on ignore. Never mind, will state it again, this time with a link.
The tobacco companies are planning to reduce pricing if plain packaging is introduced. Their reasons are to do with competition from cheap imports are stated in the article below.
If prices are reduced, there is a huge risk of smokers increasing their addiction. Cheaper for high school kids to buy from older kids (or the older kids get a bigger profit margin).
The only winner out of this will be more tax revenue for the government coffers and smokers who think Christmas has come early - until prices are put back up and then they will go without food. Good one labor and coalition MPs who think this is really going to help. They have no idea, imo, of what really goes on out there."THE threat by big tobacco companies to slash cigarette prices should be taken seriously given the scope for retailers to import cheap tobacco, promote ''home'' brands, and force a price war, a leading researcher said yesterday."

If Eagle has all those he thinks are "righties" on the forum IGNORE, could someone please inform Eagle that this plain packaging thing is probably only going to make it easier for people to smoke before he asks the same questions over and over again?
I have an adult child who smokes and my biggest fear is they will smoke more due to the potential price decrease. So, I am not just attacking the labor move, I have serious concerns with this with someone in my own family.
I also asked this now adult child who started smoking in high school just how school kids get smokes. The response was that there are people who would sell it to them outside the school grounds, and I would imagine the seller would be in it for profit.
