Thye won't ban all together because prohibition never works and would create a black market. People are addicted and they need to be warned and assisted with the youth aggressively discouraged from taking the addictive habit up.
It shouldn't be a political football and any stance that support the tobacco industry at all is simply wrong and done only for greed purposes. Don't care who or which party, it is wrong. If Abbott supports the tobacco industry in any way then he risks losing a lot of liberal votes, mine included.

I don't know which governments started the quitline campaign and which governments introduced the no smoking in pubs, shopping centres, theatres, airplanes, cafes etc or whether they were a state or federal initiative or a bit of both and nor do I care.

It was a smart thing to do...bit by bit smoking became anti social. It certainly made it easier for me to quit 4 years ago after over 30 years smoking.

I still remember when they banned smoking in pubs. I said it won't last because no one will go to the pubs any more. Amasing how self centred you thinking can be lol

The governments Australia wide have had it right for years and slowly bit by bit we have seen the population go from around 85% adult population smoking to around 15%.
Whilst it may be legal it serves no good purpose and it should never be used as a tool of politics. Libs shouldn't support or take funds from the tobacco industry and should support any measures that make it more difficult for the young to start up.
