Cannabis can have quite serious consequences in susceptible individuals. The recent 4 Corners program showed that quite clearly. Still, that is not a reason to ban it or other currently prohibited drugs, just as we don't ban alcohol even though many people do have severe problems with it.
Meekrat is quite correct in his comments on the inadvisability of making drug use illegal. Clearly, it doesn't work. Sadly, the world's agenda on the "war on drugs" is dictated by the US and whether or not you want to believe that these folk are stupid and/or corrupt, the fact is that it has been an abject failure.
We need more realistic drugs policies based on education and harm minimisation.
