Bouvainville: Ten International Observers to Monitor Bougainville Elections
Ten international observers have been given the go ahead to monitor elections in May in the Papua New Guinea province of Bougainville.
Organisations expressing an interest in providing observers include the United Nations, the Commonwealth, the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat and Australia.
The Post Courier newspaper says Bougainville leaders on the interim joint supervisory body have agreed to ask the National Executive Council to issue official invitations to those interested in sending observers to the May poll.
The United Nations is expected to be asked to play a co-ordinating role.
