Amazing you mentioned plumbers. My brother in law actually was a published neuroscientist but left that to become a plumber. Less pressure, shorter hours, more money. He could only have made a proper career for himself overseas, which he didnt want to do. It's criminal how little we care about and fund science in Australia. We are losing the best brains and missing out on benefits to everyone through scientific breakthroughs.
