Indonesians never fought the Vietcong so we don't know who would be the best, but if our SAS says the Indonesians were the best they had fought who are you to argue the point. Don't sell the Indonesians short, their crack troops are tough and importantly can operate without the long supply lines more technically advanced armies require. If the Australians didn't have artillery cover at Long Tan they would have been wiped out. The Vietcong made a tactical error in choosing to fight within Australian artillery range. They had been surprised by the Australian patrol and it remains a mystery as to whether they weren't aware of the artillery available to the Australians or ignored it. They never made the same mistake again. Indonesians are very proud of their country and most prefer to live there. They have a middle class population greater than Australia's whole population and they live a comfortable life. Many are educated overseas and return to work In Indonesia because that is where the opportunities are. All in all Indonesia provides greater potential for someone to improve themselves than what Australia does. Apart from the Indonesians who prefer to live there, many foreigners also want to live there including a large number of Australians. So far there have only been limited numbers of Australian who have taken Indonesian citizenship but that will change in the future.
