    Good Morning Traders,

  2. Firstly, please note that it is a public holiday in the US this evening for 'Memorial Day', and therefore all US markets are closed.

    US - Market Reflections - Friday, 27th May, 2011

Friday's domestic news is mixed and in sum doesn't add further weight to evidence of slowing growth. On the positive side are solid income data in the personal income & outlays report and also a solid rise in consumer sentiment led by strength in the consumer's outlook. On the negative side is a collapse in pending home sales that may however be skewed by April's extreme weather that hit the South. Internationally, focus is on Greece and whether a default is on the horizon.

Stocks continue to enjoy momentum after edging back in the prior week. The Dow rose 0.3 percent to 12,441. The dollar continues to weaken, pressured all week by the apparent downturn in domestic growth. The dollar index fell nearly one percent today. Gold firmed slightly to $1,535 while oil held between $100 and $101.

    ...AND...

    Of note in Australia today:

  4. HIA New Home Sales (MoM) (Apr)
[HIA New Home Sales released by the Housing Industry Association presents the number of new home sales in Australia. It indicates the housing market condition. House buyers spend money on furnishing and financing their homes, which stimulates the demand for goods, services, and the employees. Thus, a high reading is seen as bullish (or positive) for the AUD, whereas a low reading is seen as bearish (or negative).]

  5. Company Gross Operating Profits (QoQ) (Q1)
[The Company Gross Operating Profits released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics measures the total amount of pre-tax profits earned from business activities, excluding interest expense on borrowing and valuation adjustments. A high reading is seen as positive (or bullish) for the AUD because good business conditions are a sign of a strong consumer spending and import/ export activity, while a low reading is seen as negative (or bearish).]
