It seems to me that nations need to often suffer their horrors to revolt against them and produce the people and the resolve to make something better.
I'm sure that if the North Koreans or Cambodians thought like that as they were getting tortured and watching their famiies getting killed they would feel immense satisfaction rather than fear and sadness..
A $1.80 US a day doesnt strike me as a wage paid by an economic powerhouse. But lets assume it is an economic powerhouse it has only just become it South Korea on the otherhand has been an economic power house for close to 50 years with its "accelerant of pain" mercifully cut short by succesful US intervention
