Here's a cut from the ASX announcement:

"North Manganese is an Australian company that has applied for 7 mineral exploration licenses covering
approximatelly 3,856km2 of shallow marine terrain in the close proximity to the Northern Territory mainland."

The first point to note is re the 7 exploration licences; they are applications, they haven't been granted as yet.

The NT Govt has already been seriously tested re this issue, and they will be further tested as all this plays out. As the coordinator of the TO's campaign against seabed mining I can assure you they'll be tested as never before, particularly now that the NLC and other NE Arnhem Cultures become stakeholders. And I'd imagine that GOT will be pursing their agenda with forceful intent. However I think you're overplaying this issue as a watershed as to how the NT Government will be assessed- given that the real test is an election. History suggests that it's not this kind of issue on which NT Governments rise or fall. And remember Aborigines are a huge block of the NT vote.

Re the derailing comment; I'd imagine that each case would be treated on its merits, and that procedurally all stakeholder's concerns will be fully assessed ...as a constituent that's what I want from this Government and any future Territory Govt

Re the geographical location of the tenements under application; are either of you aware of the iconic nature of the recent Blue Mud Bay decision to Aborigines? GOT's actions here, to me, and the twenty or so NE Arnhem aborigines I've spoken to today, seem something akin to waving a red rag at a bull. And, as I stated on another thread, I now predict the emergence of a coalition of all NE Arnhemland Cultures pursuing Sea Rights with the utmost urgency.

Clydebigdog, what constitutes "common sense" here is surely a moot point. Cultural desecration and environmental vandalism make no sense to me, and I'd suggest, to many others as well.

Re the ducks being lined up: Callback, I received an email late last year from somebody telling me that the same ducks were lined up then. Although you certainly have the right to, I just don't count my chickens before they hatch...very much a life lesson, more than reinforced by this particular journey.

And cheers to you 77 for your kind words. I too think that this is a fantastic forum for discussion and constructive argument, especially if both are conducted in a civil manner (although possibly less entertaining than the trading of personal insults).

Cheers Callback and you too Clydebigdog...looking forward to posting from Groote from here on in.
