"I'm sorry, but I find it utterly depressing that an entire forum should be almost entirely dedicated to gloating over the hardship of others. This forum in NO way provides a balanced view"
First of all, the hardship hasn't really happened and may never happen, it's just a prospect and not an unlikely one if you look at market cycles and levels of exposure to this one.
I think many giant mortgage averse people are not gloating, they are welcoming the prospect of housing prices coming back to reality, where people in their 20, 30's and 40's who have not bought yet, and may be able to afford to do so without selling their grandma.
It's not hard to see why so many would not be heartbroken over any hardship caused to those who have borrowed extraordinary amounts of cash and get into trouble as a result, because this behavior has led to many people being priced out of the market.
Looking at the interest in this property forum recently and the TU voting patterns, there are plenty of interested people who may fit the above category.
So you're right it's not balanced, just as I imagine it wasn't balanced in the boom times, and would have been primarily bulls talking about how fast the prices were rising, how much money they were going to make and chuckling about rental increases.
