Helium2, so renting isn't your cup of tea and normal people give their kids money to buy houses? The majority of the x and y generation cannot afford to say renting is not their cup of tea, unless they want to live an expensive 1.5hr plus commute ( add mega tolls and petrol bills)away in a dive. Most normal people cannot afford to give the kind of money required away to their kids to help them get anything better than the dump 1.5 hours away from work. Parents should be living their own life IMO, and kids should be able to stand on their own two feet without being bankrolled. But you are right, kids cannot buy into the property market any more in most cases without assistance from wealthy parents, if they are lucky enough to have them. This is sad for the kids and for the parents, and it is because of all aforementioned reasons why this market has blown out.
