Apologies if this has already been posted previously:

    I. The Lynas LAMP plant is safe - for both residents and employees.

For residents in the Kuantan area, there is zero exposure to radiation.

For LAMP employees, exposure is the equivalent of less than taking an airplane flight or using a mobile phone.

Lynas is dedicated to zero harm. Care and wellbeing of our people and the communities in which we operate is at our core.

Lynas participated in a series of community education meetings in 2009 and 2010 where the DoE, AELB, and Nuclear Malaysia presented their findings on the Lynas Advanced Materials Plant, explaining it is a safe, non-hazardous material being processed where the public would be exposed to zero radiation.

An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was completed and submitted to DoE, and approvals given after extensive inter agency review by all relevant authorities.
Lynas has submitted all information required to the AELB for appovals to date.

Malaysia has a clear legal framework, clear regulations, and a government with a vision for value added industry.

II. Lynas's LAMP plant will support Malaysia's stated "2020" vision.

Pemandu's Economic Transformation Programme outlines 12 national key economic areas where Malaysia seeks to grow to achieve high-income nation status in a way that Is inclusive, sustainable and safe.

Oil, gas and energy are key economic areas that will facilitate a shift towards more middle and high income jobs for Malaysians. According to Pemandu, the oil, gas and energy sector is targeted to raise a total of GNA contribution of RM241 billion by 2020.

LAMP will reap huge financial benefits to Malaysia.

    - Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) of capital cost of RM 1.3 billion

    - Operating expenditure of RM 400 million per year

    - Export revenue equivalent to 1% of Malaysia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP)

    - Creation of over 350 skilled jobs

III. Lynas's LAMP plant will make Malaysia the go-to destination for nearly 33% of the world's rare earth element requirements. Delivered to a responsible new standard in processing. A vital ingredient in nearly all efficient, high-technology products in the marketplace. Products we use in our lives today.

Rare earths are 17 elements, or "Lanthanides", which are used in energy-efficient light bulbs, sonar systems, hybrid cars, flat-screen TVs, touch screens and computers.

These "Lanthanides" are essential to "green" technology:

    - Improve energy efficiency through lower consumption

    - Compact fluorescent lights

    - Weight reduction in cars

    - Higher oil refinery yields
    Environmental protection through emission control

    - Auto catalytic converter

    - Diesel additives
Enables smaller and more powerful digital technology

    - Flat panel displays

    - Disk Drives

    - iPods / MP3 players

Responsible companies need responsible suppliers: thus the LAMP plant will create an ecosystem of secondary economic impact through high-technology industries which need Lanthanides and will want to build plants in the region.

    - The Lynas plant will bring knowledge transfer and technology transfer, empowering Malaysian's with 21st century skills and experience in this emerging field.

    - Lynas will be part of the skills development drive.
