Just love the compassion you get from your fellow human being on this site. The poor bloke is just trying to make a better life for himself and his family and this is the sort of rubbish you post about him. I would just love to know how he is considered too greedy in this scenario especially since this is his residence not an investment. As for whether he could afford it well where is the evidence he couldn't while he was employed - obviously things changed after he lost his job but the majority would struggle to stay afloat if unemployed for an extended period of time.
