I know this will not be popular, but here goes...

    I totally agree.

However, if drugs were decriminalised and strictly controlled then there would be very little or no crime associated with them. Right now they are only available on the black market and because of that there is a lot of violent crime associated with drugs. Also, most street prostitution is as a result of drug addiction, which is due to the black market. If addicts were treated as medical cases and not criminals then they could get the necessary medical help (and yes, in some cases decriminalised drugs necessary for treatment and rehabilitation) then they would have the potential to become contributing members of society instead of marginalised criminals and prostitutes. Because drugs are illegal they are running around commiting violent robberies and terrorising ordinary people and the police. Drugs are very expensive on the black market - as far as they are concerned the money they need has to come from somewhere. Decriminalised drugs would be strictly controlled and addicts for the most part would not need to steal large sums of money just to keep up their habit.

Gambling, in my opinion needs to be strictly controlled if not banned entirely. Poker machines just prey on desperate people with low will power who cannot protect themselves.

Guns should be banned entirely. Unless you are a police officer, security guard, member of the armed forces or a farmer or hunter, you do not need a gun.

These measures will dramatically reduce the incidence of violent crime, crime that is mostly related to the criminalisation of recreational and hard drugs.

I am not the only one who thinks this. There are moves afoot in other countries and while it will take some time for people to accept it, it will happen. Maybe it will need the old attitudes to die out, but it will happen. Then our streets will be much safer.
