The Groote Eylandt aborigines already use their Royalties and other income derived from how they utilise Royalties for the most part, and overwhelmingly the most part, wisely and in a manner that will ensure a reasonably sound economic future. This wasn't always the case, but it is now and has been for well over a decade. And they're devoting much of their energy into making up for the lost time when this wasn't the case.

With respect your assupmtions that the GE's don't do this tends to support the argument I made in my previous post re stereotypical notions, habits tendencies etc.

The reality on Groote is much different than other Aboriginal realities, and because of the mining that is already here. What the TO's attempt to do is seek a balance between mining and cultural maintenance. Gemco, according to the sensibilities of the Locals are always trying to aggressively tip the balance the other way. And GOT even more, a hundred, a thousand times more so by their desire to destroy the seascape in pursuit of mn. And there's no question that just environmentally open cut seabed mining of mn would rip the shite out of that place not to mention the cultural disruption.

GEBIE and the ALC employ well over 100 Europeans, the Groote Eylandt Aboriginal Trust employees at least another twenty Europeans and some are mentors and trainers. The Royalties and other income generates employment for Europeans and Locals alike. The reality is simply not as it appears many posters imagine. They're not some "poor bugger me" mob relying on hand outs and the "crumbs from the white man's table".

Try and see past the argument that some how GOT will be doing the Culture a favour. In my opinion that's not the objective truth, and certainly not the truth as the TO's see it.
