I began to have that realisation a few days ago, I guess. And, in regard to the fact that it was self realisation rather then in response to this particular post of yours, I'm glad I got in one post ahead of you with my most recent. Hippies, who I never tust, might put that down to the alignment of certain planets.

Your'e right I did see it, and continue to see it, as GOT's fault and also that blame resides with the NT Govt. And while in the first instance I certainly had no compassion for SH's who were burnt, rejoicing in fact at any misery that might have befallen them because I believed they were investing in cultural genocide and environmntal vandalism. And also because I live with the palpable fear and alarm of the TO's, which has been their response to GR's incursions. I hate seeing people scared and feeling bullied or not being in control of their own destinies.

And while I still see cultural and environmental degredation as the outcome of the Groote Eylandt Project if taken to its logical conclusion, I leant along the way that the SH aren't monsters, and that many of them, in kind, are scared and apprehensive too.

I also realised that I live a privileged life in a closeted world, generously remunerated, with no overheads whatsover, and protected by the collective in which I live (as long as I follow the rules) from the consequences of financial ruination. I know that I will always have a roof over my head and food on the table no matter what, even though it might be a bit third worldish.

In short I forgot what it is like to forge a path in the cut-throat Mainstream contemporay Australia dominated by money, investing for the future and so forth.

Although I was aware as to the reasons for SH's anger, I didn't care. But I do now. Posters like Buzbarker were a wake up call in this respect.

In kind I would hope that SH's also have compassion for the position of the TO's and understand the impact that their investments can have on others who live, and like living, and have the right to live, in a world different from their own.

Having said that my resolve is still in knocking GR for six and thwarting their ambitions because of my own strongly held position in regard to the cultural and environmental issues in play. But, out of respect for the sensibilities of SH's, I will certainly post differently in the future with the aim of providing concrete information adding, hopefully constructively, to that pool upon which they rely in making their decisions.
