They will be running a full "triple combo" LWD as a minimum. What they get from that is Directional, Gamma Ray, Resistivity, Density and Porosity.

The oil shows confirm that there is oil within the pore spaces of the limestone - they need the density and porosity tools to give the relative volume of pore space to gross rock volume. From that they can infer the likely permeability of the limestone as well.

So, they could have drilled on and looked at cuttings to try and guess at the porosity and permeability but there is a big risk in limestone that they will loose returns - in which case there are no cuttings to look at. By pulling out and replacing the LWD they will get real time data on the porosity/ inferred permeability and the fluid in the pore spaces (Oil we hope...).

They also are planning on running wireline logs at TD - personally I think that they will learn all they need to know from LWD but they will want the wireline for data quality and for the fluid samples from MDT.

Either way there will be substantial news on Thursday in the regular update.
