Thanks for the reply. I am surprised at some of your comments.
Of course CO2 is less than 1% of atmospheric gases (approx 380 part per million at present - and rising!) but CO2 is the most significant contributor to anthropogenic global warming.
And yes the planetry climate has been very different in the past. There is evidence of tropical forests in Antarctica. The sea level has also been 200 metres higher.
The point is that we are guaranteed a 1 metre (or more) sea level rise by 2100. Just think about the impact that will have on our coastal cities and towns.
You say you are a scientist. Well for Gods sake open your eyes and read what the CLIMATE SCIENTISTS are saying. There is a mass of information available on the net. Do you really think that 98% of these scientists have a political agenda? Do you honestly believe these reputable people are so misguided and/or involved in a gigantic CON job?
And yes - Australia may be responsible for a fraction of the CO2 being produced but it is simply not good enough to expect the major emitters to take action while we sit on our hands and do nothing.
This is going to be a very different world in 10-20 years time and our children will pay one hell of a price for our ignorance and selfish behaviour.
I too am a scientist and I would desperately like to believe that this was one big con - but it is not and I fear mankind is making a tragic mistake by refusing to address the issue and take action. Make no mistake - climate change is the greatest threat (and challenge) mankind has ever faced.
The question is --- Will we have the where with all to take action before it is too late.
