Hi guys
Some very intresting comments here, still seems to me that very few people grasp that this is not just a tax on industry but the people of australia. Once the carbon price is set on commodities such as coal who do you think will foot the bill in the end??? My opinion the consumer is going to end up wearing this cost not matter what renumeration the government promises to industry. Our power generation is heavily weighted on coal whether it is brown or black coal, Coal fired power makes up approx 75% of our electricity needs.
We are all going to be footed with the bill and we wont have a choice, currently there is no other option that would provide compariable energy pricing. Power prices have already moved significantly in recent years where will they be at when this tax is imposed. Most people seem to beleive that the pricing will be reasonable per ton and will only really effect ineffecient coal mines that have a high carbon pollution level.
I personally hope that the public realises the cost that will be passed over to them from higher power generaation costs and it is not glazed over with the benfits this tax will bring. All just my opinion, wondering what others think the potential costs will be to the public??
