I don't push the TO's to make decisions re the land or the sea. I have no say, I'm not a TO.

The TO's decision to knock over GOT re Winchelsea and Connection was based on the fact that they own both islands. They didn't have to give a reason for their rejection, but basically the reasons are that dead people are buried on Winchelsea and much of the island is sacred, including having a number of already registered sacred sites in the area, and re Connection the big lake on that island is the most significant visible sacred site on the Archipelago.

As an aside, registered sacred sites abound on the Archipelago and also in the seascape. Even if Got was given the get go to mine they already, under the legislation, would have to recognise those sites as exclusion zones.

Retrac GOT do have another option, abandon their seabased tenements, and yet another, try for the two islands when they come out of moratorium in five years.

In my opinion GOT could not have chosen, in terms of their mining ambitions, a seascape and landscapes anywhere in Australia that have greater environmental and cultural significance, as a combination, than the Archipelago and its surrounding waters. GOT too, in my opinion, could have saved everybody a whole heap of angst by simply doing their homework and perhaps realising that the so called Groote Project should have been placed in the too hard basket at this point in time.

AS I said I'm not anti-mining, but personally I'm certainly passionately opposed to the seabed stuff, as you already know.
