roy, bots are just used by brokers- not necessarily insto's. It might be that some retiree has asked a broker to "buy me something cheap" and that is all they know about the market. Brokers have these machines on most shares. The other use of bots is for shares that are highly illiquid. A share might barely have a trade, but when it goes ex-dividend, a bot can remove the dividend if people are not going to.
