Time to take back your earlier post, Jumpstart, and admit your mistake about BeyondZero.

Re your numbers in the second post - that look like it's for a small scale unit in the UK, extrapolated out for multiple small scale units and multiplied up the price accordingly? Am I wrong there? (It's not easy to follow your post.)

Solar costs are falling rapidly. Solar installations can be different sizes and locations.

You seem to want to stop before we even start.

What are we going to do when coal is banned? We have more sunshine than almost anywhere in the world, and ideal latitude range. We also have some of the top intellectual capability in solar.

IMO to try to hold out on coal for as long as possible would be a huge cost to the country. We need new power plants and we should not tie ourselves to new coal fired plants for another 50 years. We'll be shutting most of them down in the next 20 years and would lose any benefit from up to 30 years of investment. That would just be crazy.

Much better to plan properly for a phased move, which has to include more solar and wind than at present.

Yes it will cost - nothing comes for free. But the cost will be considerably less if we start now, plan properly and do it right (or as 'right' as possible under our good but less than perfect political system). Rather than knee-jerk reactions when we have no choice in another decade or two.
