Yes you are correct.

If you feel or prefer to live in a nicer house by renting then fair enough.

But having to live in someone elses house to do that is not for me.

I like to knock photo frames into walls and paint, remove, refurbish how and when I want at home.

With having your own home comes with so much more (non mometary value) than saving $100 week by renting only to stick it in the bank at 6% interest.
