Totally agree. Further intensification is only possible with endless cheap energy. In other words, just a pipedream. Without plenty of cheap oil or natural gas you go back to growing grass and producing your nitrogen with clover, neither of which humans can digest, so we need ruminant animals to turn it into something edible - meat, eggs or milk.
Ironically, grains are the real luxury in this world.
