As reported by the Bangkok post almost all the dead were young women who had actually been trampled in the rush by their boyfriends to escape, as were all the burnt and injured. The post quoted Thai witness's as saying that those who escaped then stood across the road watching while about 6 people , including the Thai bar manager, tried to clear the doorway of bodies of trampled girls and pull out those they could. 5 of the 6 rescuers were farang, ( guavas) , or white guys. Most probably they were the only 5 white guys in the bar. The place was known as a hangout for the whiskey sippin Thai rich kids set, the same ones who race around town in daddies sports car mowing down anyone who gets in the way. You can actually get away with vehicular manslaughter in Thailand ( happens regularly) as long as you flee the scene and make contact with daddys lawyer before the cops charge you.
That said, there are many decent blokes in Thailand. Most are dirt poor farmers who will do anything for you. Anyone with money though, especially from the new generation should be considered as extremely dangerous.
