"So, how exactly do people who commit suicide learn this truth? Have they spoken from the grave? And is it true that dead people can feel dismay?"
Dead people feel nothing. A doctor I know died of a heart attack. He was dead (clinically) for a long time, and was resuscitated with no ill events eventually. Was trully miraculous. But he saw no white lights, God, or anything else... So, when you die, you die.... Worries about debts, your affairs in disarray, your loved ones.....will disappear the instant you die... You will know nothing....you will not be...as far as you are concerned, you have not been... So the only unpleasantness is the nano-second it takes to die. After that, peace...and nothingness. So, do not fear death, welcome it.....for you were born to die.
