Mattryanshares "Okay, here's the bombshell. The volcanic eruption in Iceland, since its first spewing of volcanic ash has, in just FOUR DAYS, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet ? all of you"
So if you do a little more reading you also find that the aerosols spewed out by volcanos also have a cooling effect on the atmosphere. That's right though people who don't want to do anything like to be selective in their news scans.
I reckon you're missing the point, the planet changes constantly. We are part of the biosphere and of course with every other process on the earth contribute our part to impacting climate. I really wish people like you would stop treating people like fools. Seriously you think people that believe that something should be done are stupid enough to not recognise that a multitude of other process contribute.
Mattryanshares give us a break, get off your soap box and stop treating the general populous like dribbling fools.
* Nothing you say provides one convincing thread of evidence that fundamentally mankind contributes it's part. * Volcanos erupt irregularly but yes I accept they do inject a huge amount of particulates and carbon into the atmosphere.
* Our global population continues to skyrocket and as developing economies want to their share of middle class trappings (consumerism, travel by car etc) they too will contribute their part.
* Other processes around the solar cycles, changes in albedo based on levels of atmospheric aerosols and snow cover will also contribute changes.
* What we all know is that all these aspects and much more contribute their part to changes in climatic function.
Your answer is do nothing, it's all natural and we should just ride it out. I would say there is a principled difference here. Your view is to stand on the side lines and undertake some kind of pseudo-scientific debate about contributors to climate change. Compare that to trust in science and that in fact we are contributing more than our share and this requires some modification.
OK THE GIG IS UP, I LIKE A MAJORITY OF THE PLANET AM NOT A CLIMATE SCIENTIST, I CONFESS TO ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND EVERY DYNAMIC OF ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCES BUT THEIR ARE MANY THAT KNOW BETTER THAN I. I am also not a heart specialist, an oncologist, a neurologist, a quantum physicist or any other kind of scientific specialist (OK I am an engineer and so typically would hold industry interests close to my heart). I will, being that I am no specialist, consult with the views of that community asking for their contribution and take their consensus view.
So think about it like this. As a species we are concious of our impact on the world and therefore we also make concious choices resulting in concious action. Funny enough the volcano or even the sun is not concious and guess what we can't modify their behavious either. Science says we need to act and therefore in my view act we must.
We all do in fact think and despite your's and other Milton Freidman neo-liberalist's best attempts to stop involvement of governments and leave it to the markets to sort out changes in human behaviour, you forget the market's short comings. You want to instead run some kind of scare campaign pretending to know better than a community of experienced and intelligent scientists. Whilst arguing away based on your fictional wealth of knowledge in climatic modelling that we should do nothing.
GREAT MESSAGE, oh yeah and we should hug each other and a tree. Seriously dude get a grip on a principled discussion and stop treating people like mal-adjusted cave men.
Your kind will be forgotten soon enough, lost amongst the other fundamentalist poppy-cock spewing Intelligent Designists and conspiricists.
