You guys attacking the carbon tax need to read some of the materials from the leading economists in the area such as Weitzman and Nordhaus. Subsidies to new developments do encourage clean tech but it still does not remove the externality for the economy and quota systems are too volatile. The fact is that in an uncertain economic context, the carbon tax is the least likely to go wrong. It removes the externality and encourages innovation at the same time so it doesn't punish innovators. Stop listening to Abbott's emotional ramping and assess what the world's leading economists are saying.
