Let's not forget, he was beaten by ONE vote by Abbott, and a significant number of Abbott's votes were simply to do with climate change denialism.

Once that stance is shown to be antiquated and out of favour with the electorate, Turnbull may dispose of Abbott quite easily.

The fact is, polls at the moment are really only relevant for the purpose of party decisions re leadership.

If Labor's polling doesn't improve in the next six months, moves will be underway to topple Gillard. If Gillard's approval rating improves significantly, moves will be underway to get rid of Abbott etc.. Rudd may challenge regardless as polls show that he would beat Abbott at an election. All difficult to predict as we should all know.

All very interesting, but getting excited about polls as a real guide to the next election result is premature and naive.

At the moment, approval polls are only really of interest in terms of party leadership, and guaging reaction to current policy decisions.

Just think of how much interest there is now in the Resources Tax, tobacco packaging, etc.. Once the hysteria is gone, there's no going back. Abbott will need to be at his conniving and tricky best to try to convince the public that they want to reverse the carbon tax. Go back to square one. Nuh. Ain't gonna happen.

He doesn't have a snowflakes chance in hell of doing that. Not a hope. Buckley's. Zilch. Nil. Zero.

Tony has really got some work to do now. His disbelief has led him into a very, very tricky corner. Amazing how truth works isn't it Tony! :-)
