Going to war is rarely about heaven for most people. I think you have been watching too many war movies, or listening to too much islamofacist propaganda.
It is more often about protection of one's property and family and sometimes even more general things like preserving a way of life that you hold to be valuable.
Sometimes it is also about taking someone elses property and family (particulary the women and children) so that it can become your property.
Sometimes it is also about making sure that an enemy is removed as a threat to your property and family and wag of life.
Of course threats come in many different forms and are even manufactured if there is sufficient motivation to do so.
Governments generally confuse the issues at hand for the purpose of generating ferver and devotion and the thought of higher ideals among those who are can be manipulated that way, rather than just the crass motives of profit either by protection of your own property, of by obtaining someone elses.
I am sure I read in one of your posts about your plan to self-detruct rather than be involved in all this messiness of life.
