Dub, it was the right speech to make at the time: you're going to die so I'll tell you what you want to hear. Death is good. Alas, it could have backfired had there been amongst the listeners someone who had done a bit of reading. The whole of the preceding literature talks of the "life after death" (called the Underworld) phenomenon where you would be treated according to your behaviour on earth. In the underworld, life, (in the form of shadows in some religions) just went on and retributions were made. This is so in all the literature I'm aware of.
