Thanks highlandlad and good morning all,

    US - Market Reflections - Friday 15th July, 2011

The Dow managed to rise a bit today, gaining about 1/3 of a percent to 12,479. Strong earnings from Google helped offset a sharpening focus on the nation's budget impasse given the threat of a ratings cut should talks continue to stall. The day's economic news isn't very positive either given only a very small gain in the manufacturing component of the June industrial production report and another contraction this month for the Empire State report. Consumer inflation is falling back overall but not the core rate which is a negative for the QE3 outlook. Good news is a better-than-expected outcome for banking stress tests in Europe.

Market Focus in the US this evening

Another decline for the home market index, which is already at rock bottom, would be very discouraging for builders, Realtors and construction workers.
