Fighting for the enemy seems like treason to me too.
The only reason he was supported by the lefties was that he was a propaganda tool in their campaign against Howard and Bush. Had he been captured in battle during the Labor/Democrat rule the lefties would have abandoned him as they did Julian Assange.
