I understand what you mean about those 'look alike' trolleys! And yes, the amount of fizzy drnks/snacks is, IMO, over done.
Michele, where possible I do look for Aust, and I mean PRODUCT of Aust, not with "local/imported" product content, because I believe that description should break down what came from where. They are not 'die hard' staples but some products I have no choice, absolutely no choice other than China(this at Woolies). Minor detail, but one day I was in a hurry, wanted a small can of pineapple pieces(cut up), all small cans made in China, opted for a larger Golden Circle. Also what annoys me is that products within a group vary where they are made. One Heinz product is made in NZ and another in Aust. I'm not suggesting closing down NZ factories. It is a fickle world when it's more cost effective to make it in NZ, transport it etc etc for cheaper than making it in Aust. Business is business and every cent counts, literally! I don't really buy the argument that Aust wages are to blame. I wouldn't imagine that basic production workers at a cannery would get paid much. Most would be a heart beat away from a health care card. Business is tough every where at the moment and companies don't seem to want to give anything up on their end other than axe wages. Some products are 'best' from the originators. I mean, Parmigiano Reggiano cheese from Italy or Italian/Spanish Prosciutto is superior to any Aust product. But I do realise that the crux of this 'argument' is, do non specialised basic products need to be imported. No. I find it a sad desperation of globalisation.
