Thanks for the feedback one & all. Hopefully this post responds to each of the points you raised.

My posts have always acknowledged factors such as seasonality & variability. There I do not question that they are playing a part in each of the recent 'special events'. In themselves they are very important but in the main we have adjusted to live within the ranges of the extremes they provide.

Nor do I deny the significance of cataclysmic natural events such as the Mt St Helenes & Mt Pinatubo eruptions.

That said, my point is that we cannot afford to be making significant additions to the extreme events which occur courtesy of nature but over which human activity has some influence. Some are unable to survive such exaggerated extremes - as with Mexico City's air pollution & currently in the US.

Even if the minimalist peer reviewed science prediction of a 15cms sea rise is correct & the post 1990 acceleration proves to be a blip, our reality is that sea levels are rising. Even as Monckton conceded, so too are surface temperatures.

The US story shows that even in a place like NY under conditions which are beyond extreme for that area systems such as electricity supply fail, creating secondary issues that magnify problems.

Each year we add 75m people to the planet, removing forests & taking over arable land to house them. Our nightly news reveals the latest famine in Ethiopia inflicting widespread misery & death. IMO the scenario is looking at us through the eyes of those suffering kids, it is confronting & the Maths is not in our favour.

Meantime our big polluters continue to get a free kick at the environment's expense. While I don't believe the CarbonTax-ETS-CPRS will fix all these issues it is a mechanism for making improvements - unlike doing nothing.

Eventually though we have to seriously tackle issues including fossil fuel consumption, global population increase, deforestation, desertification & soil acidification.
