IMO cutting emissions by 5% by 2020 is just Australia's tokenistic start & in itself is pitifully inadequate.

In contrast, the UK has already cut emissions by 23% & David Cameron recently announced their intention to achieve reduction of 50% by 2025 - as with Maggie Thatcher he is a conservative pollie who actually believes the Science & is responsible enough to act to address it. Constrast that to Tony Abbott's approach that would have us still building side valve V8 Ford Customlines.

Despite comments by Tony Abbott, even China has already taken huge steps to address their massive pollution issues. IMO their one child policy has bought us all some extra time & their efforts to improve agricultural practices, design more efficient urban centres, to upgrade older & dirtier foundries & coal fired power stations is commendible. Their 3 Gorges Dam supplies 22,500MW of hydro-electric power -almost 20 times that of Hazelwood PS.

IMO Abbott's recent denial of reports that China is moving to an ETS style carbon pricing mechanism by 2013 is mischievous at best & symptomatic of a mindset that; "I'm alright, it's your problem". As a man who still appears to believe in 'populate or perish' my guess is that as PM Abbott will probably increase that idiotic, grotesquely irresponsible baby bonus.
